Reclaiming Your Energy: 3 Reasons Why Every Person With ADHD Needs A Virtual Assistant

In a recent episode of the More Than ADHD™️ podcast, I had an incredible conversation with someone who knows me better than 99% of the world population: Nancy Mungai. Founder and Advocate of INVA (Inclusive Neurodivergent Virtual Assistant), Nancy lives in Nairobi, Kenya. (So how does she know me on such an incredibly deep level? Because she has been my personal VA for over four years!) Nancy is a soul-led advocate for inclusion. Her insights during our discussion will probably hit home in a powerful way.

We talked about the invisible struggles that people with ADHD often carry, struggles that many others never see. It’s like moving through life with a heavy, invisible backpack full of disappointment and shame, due to countless missed appointments, forgotten tasks, and unrelenting negative self talk.

Why Having an ADHD-Informed Virtual Assistant Has Changed My Life

One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation was that every person with ADHD should consider working with a virtual assistant. Delegating tasks is not about giving up responsibility. It is about creating the space to focus on what we do best, rather than getting stuck in the cycle of overwhelm and burnout. (I can vouch for this, as I have lived experience in the workplace both without and with support. Now that I have a VA, I’m never going back to the “Lone Wolf” mentality!)

Virtual assistants can help manage both personal and professional tasks, providing structure and accountability in ways that feel supportive rather than restrictive.

The Power of Accountability and Structure for ADHD Brains

We explored why accountability is so crucial. Having someone in your corner who helps manage day-to-day tasks can be the difference between barely surviving and truly thriving.

Nancy shared that structure, often seen as confining, can actually be liberating when you live with ADHD. It provides the stability needed to allow creativity, energy, and focus to flourish.

How would you answer this question: “What do you think you could get accomplished if you ONLY worked on the items that you were best at (while someone else handled everything else)?”

Building Support Systems for ADHD and Removing Shame

Support systems are essential. No one should have to manage ADHD alone. We talked about the importance of building environments that are free of shame, where challenges are acknowledged without judgment.

Spoiler Alert! ADHD does not define your worth. You are not broken. You are more than ADHD! (It took me nearly 15 years of misery in the corporate world to truly realize and accept that. So please – let me save you the suspense)

ADHD Adults Can Thrive (with Support!)

If you have ADHD or love someone who does, this episode is a must-listen. Whether it is managing personal tasks, professional responsibilities, or just having someone you can trust, bringing in a virtual assistant could be one of the most powerful moves you make toward living with more ease, focus, and energy.
