Featured In Forbes: Why Body Doubling Works for ADHD (And How to Make It Work for You)

Exciting News! I was recently featured in Forbes Magazine to talk about one of my favorite productivity tools for neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals alike: Body Doubling.

If you’ve ever struggled with focus, procrastination, or task initiation, especially with ADHD, this simple yet powerful method might just be the game-changer you didn’t know you needed.

What Is Body Doubling?

Body Doubling is the practice of working alongside another person, virtually or in-person, to increase focus and accountability. Unlike traditional teamwork, it’s not about collaboration. It’s about presence. Just having someone nearby, silently working on their own task, can be enough to keep you anchored and motivated. The way I describe it to people: “Having another human with me on a virtual call is the best way for me to complete the circuit of connection in my brain, and actually get started on a task.”

Think of it as co-working with purpose.

Why Body Doubling Works for Adults with ADHD

As I shared in the Forbes article, I’ve seen firsthand how body doubling transforms productivity for my clients, especially those who are neurodivergent. Here’s why it works so well:

  • It creates gentle accountability
  • It reduces the urge to give in to distractions
  • It adds structure and rhythm to unstructured time
  • It offers emotional regulation support through connection

While body doubling is often recommended for individuals with ADHD, the truth is: anyone can benefit. Whether you’re battling decision fatigue, struggling with executive dysfunction, or just trying to stay on top of your work-from-home routine, having a body double can be the secret sauce to consistent progress.

How to Try Body Doubling for Yourself

  1. Join a virtual body doubling session   There are communities, coworking apps, and coaching programs (like mine!) that offer structured body doubling. (We have body doubling sessions over in our FREE digital community!)
  2. Partner with a friend or colleague  Schedule regular, no-pressure co-working sessions. Cameras on or off…whatever keeps you present.
  3. Create the illusion of a double Even recorded body doubling sessions, like silent study-with-me videos, can provide similar benefits!

Ready to Supercharge Your Productivity Despite ADHD?Body doubling is just one of the many strategies I use with coaching clients to help them show up for their goals with more clarity and ease.
